Improved separation of serum proteins in paper electrophoresis: a new electrophoresis buffer

Serum was separated into 9 fractions by paper electrophoresis for 16 hr. at 6.5 volts per cm. on Whatman No. 1 and Schleicher and Schull 2043 B acetylated paper by using a buffer containing trishydroxymethylaminomethane (Tris) 60.5, ethylenediamine tetra-acetic acid 60 and boric acid 4.6 g. per litre. With cellulose acetate paper the buffer was 1.3 times more concentrated and the potential gradient was 4.5 volts per cm. for 16 hr.
