II. The authors describe a method for quantitative studies of spore germination in Cl. botulinum and other anaerobes. The obstacle of dormancy was eliminated by the use of an appropriate medium with the addition of starch. They show that the process of spore germination is logarithmic. The length of the lag period in germination varies inversely with the logarithm of the number of spores per ml. in the inoculum.
