Clinical Calcium 24(11): 1631-1641



A number of candidate gene approach and genome-wide association studies have found novel single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) associated with complex diseases/traits, including metabolic diseases and osteoporosis. This review highlights common aspects of genetic susceptibility to metabolic diseases and osteoporosis. Some of these SNPs were mapped as close to or within Wnt-β-catenin signaling genes. Future studies may uncover the direct association between the pathogenesis of metabolic diseases and osteoporosis.
