The pteridophyte floras of Southern and two East African regions are compared and are found to be strongly related with regard to families, genera and species. The total number of mutual species in the tree areas varies between 45% and 70%. However the tendency to endemism in the isolated tropical mountain complexes causes the percentages of mutual species in these regions to be relatively low. Emphasis is placed on the relationship between altitude and number of species in the areas.
