Background: It is believed that n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acid (PUFA) status is important for cardiovascular health. However, the major sources of the essential dietary PUFA, eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) are fish and fish oil supplements.
