Abdominal cerclage is an alternative to vaginal cerclage in the setting of previous vaginal cerclage failure or in women for whom vaginal cerclage placement was not possible due to an extremely short or scarred cervix.1 Abdominal cerclage is performed using either laparoscopy or via laparotomy during early pregnancy or prior to conception.
