A linear profitability model was developed based on the relationship between average performance levels for the traits, milk yield, fat yield, protein yield, calving interval (CI), liveweight, survivability and calving rate (CR) and the levels of output from the farm. The profitability for per cow per year and per tonne of feed dry matter of 3 different genotypes and economic values (EVs) of these traits were estimated using this model. The annual profit per cow per year, was highest for Holstein x Pabna (US$246.40) and lowest (US$101.70) for Pabna. There were no differences in EVs (US$ 0.32) of milk yields for various genotypes on a per cow per year basis. EVs of fat and protein were negative, due to there being no payment to farmers for the fat and/or protein yield. EVs of mature liveweight for different genotypes ranged from -US$0.39 to -US$0.27 on a per cow per year basis to -US$0.18 to -US$0.13 on a per tonne of feed DM basis. The EVs for, calving interval (CI) and calving rate (CR) were negative for all genotypes. The positive EVs for survivability had a positive impact on farm profit due to the changing herd composition, and increased milk output. Changing the base price of feed, milk, beef and fixed costs by +/- 20% found that the EVs for fat yield, protein yield and CI changed, depending on price levels.
