Abstract
The actions of the herbicides Eradicane (Eptc and antidote R-25788) and Surpass (vernolate and antidote R-25788), with and without the insecticide fonofos, were examined when applied pre-seeding to sweet corn, Zea mays L. cv. Golden Jubilee. Combinations of Eradicane and fonofos caused as much as 29% malformation of ears. The injury ranged from slight to severe curvature of the ear together with shortening and twisting of the husk. None of the other treatments or combination of treatments produced similar phytotoxic symptoms.
