Abstract
Golden Delicious apples were treated at 0 °C with 15% CO2 for 10 days prior to controlled atmosphere (CA) storage. Respiration and ethylene production were suppressed in the treated fruit immediately after treatment and during storage but the suppression was more persistent in the early-harvested fruit. Also, firmness retention was greatest in the early-harvested fruit.
