Abstract
The effects of two nitrogen sources and a row cover were studied for 2 day-neutral strawberry cultivars covered with different row covers and grown for 3 yr at two sites at Lavaltrie and L'Acadie. The nitrogen sources did not significantly (P ≤ 0.05) affect yield and fruit size at either site. However, the black polyethylene mulch combined with cultivar Tribute increased yield and fruit size at both sites. The use of a row cover in the fall did not prevent early frosts or lengthen the picking season. Despite a smaller fruit size and 5–8 d of earliness, good total yields appear possible from a second year crop of day-neutrals.
