The hematologic disorders of alcoholism

The hematologic disorders of alcoholism

American Journal of Medicine 54(5): 621-630

Abormalities of erythrocytes, platelets and leucocytes associated with alcoholism are reviewed. In the section on red cells abnormalities of vitamin B-6, folacin, vitamin B-12 and Fe metabolism are discussed; many seem to result from dietary deficiency, often caused by malabsorption, rather than direct toxic action of alcohol itself.
