Effects of nitroimidazole and nitrofuran derivatives on uric acid formation in an anaerobic environment by xanthine oxidase and microsomal nitroreductase

Effects of nitroimidazole and nitrofuran derivatives on uric acid formation in an anaerobic environment by xanthine oxidase and microsomal nitroreductase

Annales Pharmaceutiques Francaises 41(3): 261-268

Uric acid formation through the hypoxanthine-xanthine-oxidase system in an anaerobic environment occurred in the presence of nitrofuran and nitroimidazole derivatives. Using a microsomal system uric acid formation was observed. If the nitro-organic compounds were reduced by the hypoxanthine-xanthine-oxidase system, they were not reduced in the microsomal system. The microsomal nitroreductase was not inhibited by allopurinol. The role of nitroaromatic compounds in the xanthine-oxidase and nitroreductase systems in an anaerobic environment was discussed.
