Knowledge of the actual reproducibility of the shape of retention curves in the same patient is one of the basic prerequisites for an objective approach to the evaluation of method applicability and results interpretation. In a group of patients repeatedly examined within 4 wk to 7 mo. it was demonstrated that in some instances the reproducibility of the retention curve shapes in all stages is satisfactory. In some instances it differs substantially only in regards to the delay period of evacuation or in the initial stage, but in about 30% of the subjects the shape of the retention curves differs considerably. This implies a certain possibility limitation in the use of this examination for individual diagnostic purposes. Standard deviations reported for healthy volunteers do not correspond to the reproducibility of the T half-life value in patients. A greater scatter of values caused by the condition of the patient at the given time must be foreseen. During out-patient examinations the effect of some factors is greater than in hospitalized patients.
