The task of sheep breeding in Russia is providing the processing industry and the population of fur raw materials. On the world market pricing factor in the implementation is the diameter of the wool fibers (fineness). Developed by author method of improving the sheep of Stavropol breed Volga population using fine-wool sheep breed Manych Merino wool line Eat-214 contributes to the increase in wool productivity. The research was conducted in the conditions of dry steppes of the Volga region JSC "New life" novouzenskoye district of Saratov region. The use of local Stavropol Queens with different fields wool producers breed Manych Merino contributed to the effective improvement of wool traits and physico-chemical composition of wool fiber. The results showed that the higher the wool quality from 60 to 70 there was an increase in the number of suint: purebred sheep by 4.8 %, in hybrids - by 5.8%. The crossbred ewes in the chemical composition of wool as compared with pure-bred peers had more sulfur: 0,91-0,97 % and of nitrogen - 0,89-1,05 %. The melting point of wool grease from crossbred ewes was similar, but the iodine number of wool was lower than in purebred 2.30-3,97 G. in addition, when reducing the diameter of wool fiber of dams of different origin was observed a decrease in iodine value. Therefore, the results obtained indicate that the sheep breeding of the Stavropol Volga population with rams of the breed of Manych Merino wool line Eat-214-effective and efficient, since the use of this pairing facilitates the increase in wool productivity and wool quality indicators.
