The forecasting of the fractional composition of the crushed feed is one of the most urgent problems of feed production. The studies of the internal structure of the air and product layer (APL) in the working chamber of a closed-type hammer mill were carried out with the purpose to determine the fractional composition of the material being ground and its influence on quantitative parameters of the APL. The analysis of the process of grain raw stuff grinding and the results of a number of experiments conducted on the patented laboratory installation “centrifugal impact mill” made it possible to determine the numerical parameters (impulse values for each type of particles, values of transmission functions) in the flows of whole, “multiplying” (being crushed) and “perishing” (extremely crushed and outgoing through the sieve) particles of the APL. The following grain stuff of moderate dryness was used as a material for the grinding: barley ‘Donetsky-8', soft wheat ‘Saratovskaya-42' and rye ‘Saratovskaya-7'. In the working chamber of the hammer crusher, there were allotted conditional zones of relative stability of APL characteristics: the inlet neck zone (alpha), the bottom deck zone (beta-1), the sieve zone (gamma) and the upper deck zone (beta-2). There were installed sensors of the author's design, capable of perceiving the impact of the APL, in each zone. The developed signal transmission circuit allowed to trace in real time oscillograms of the particle types in the aggregate value of the shock pulse magnitude for each conditional zone and to transfer them in MS Excel in the form of numerical values for subsequent mathematical processing. The intervals of shock pulse values, corresponding to different types of particles, were compared with the discrete data of production experiments. As a result of the research the numerical values of the interval boundaries of the parameter under study (the shock pulse magnitude of the particles of the APL) were obtained; stratification of the APL particles by the quality of grinding was carried out on the basis of statistical evaluation of the shock pulse magnitude; the quantitative parameter (values of transfer functions of transient processes), characterizing the behavior of the APL on the boundaries of the conditional zones of the working chamber of the hammer crusher, was determined; the adequacy of the system of introduced quantitative parameters to technological characteristics of the actual process of grain raw stuff grinding was established.
