Chemical Composition and Antibacterial Activity of the Essential Oils of Semenovia frigida and Chaerophyllum bulbosum from Iran

Water-distilled essential oils from the aerial parts of Semenovia frigida and Chaerophyllum bulbosum were analyzed by GC and GC-MS. In S. frigida oil, 37 components, which representing about 90.6 % of the total composition were identified. Neryl acetate (16.2 To), spathulenol (14.5 %) and citronellol (13.8 %) were the major components in this oil. In the oil of C. bulbusum, which represented about 92.2 % of the total oil were identified. (E)-beta-Famesene (22.3 %), (Z)-beta-ocimene (18.8 %) and myristicin (17.1 %) were the major component in this oil. The antibacterial activities of S. frigida and C. bulbosum oils indicated significant activity against all Gram-positive bacteria.
