Specific antiserum against H. farciminosum was prepared by immunising rabbits. The rabbits often died with symptoms of shock, but this could be eliminated by desensitization by s/c injection of 0.1-0.2 ml of antigen 2-4 hours before i/v inoculation. Antigen prepared from mycelium dried in acetone was less toxic than native formolized antigen. Polysaccharide fractions (WW, West, Full, Ck, Cz, and R) were inactive, while protein fractions (Labz, N) and metabolic antigens were active allergens.
