Summary
The smolts were captured in the Luven'ga River in 1960 by means of seines; in 1961-62 they were taken from the nets of counting fences. The downstream migration of the smolts started during the fall of the peak flood, at a water temperature of up to 8-9°C. A study of the age composition of the smolts showed that hatchery and river smolts started to descend to the sea at age 2. Young of older age groups predominated at the start of the downstream migration. The average weight of the smolts was higher at the start of the downstream migration than at the end. The growth rate of hatchery smolts did not lag behind that of river smolts.
