Summary
To study the distribution of deep-sea fauna of agglutinated foraminifera in the Central Pacific, 56 bottom-grab and trawl samples were used from depths of 780-7500 m. The composition of the fauna contained 3 orders, 9 families, 33 genera, and 73 spp. of foraminifera, A study of the fauna revealed that, along with rare species rigorously confined to specific depths, there was a large group of species encountered at all or almost all the investigated depths. Therefore, based on the character of the distribution it was possible to distinguish various groups in the fauna of agglutinated foraminifera of the Central Pacific: I group, found only in 1 sample and only at 1 particular depth; II group, species with a wider range of depths. The II group differed with respect to distribution and was divided into 3 subgroups: subgroup A, species found in a small number of samples taken at depths with a relatively narrow range; subgroup B, species inhibiting depths of a rather appreciable range; subgroup C, widespread species found at almost all the investigated depths. The species forming these groups are presented. In the investigated material cosmopolites amounted to 52%; species common for the Atlantic and Pacific oceans, 30%; species found in fauna of the Antarctica and Pacific Ocean, 13%, endemic species of the Pacific Ocean, 5%.
