Summary
With density controlled by number of seedlings per hill from 1-5, and the spacing of hills per row, the varieties Norin 6 and Norin 22 were tested for tillers. The 3d order tillers decreased in number when there was more than one seedling per hill. The 2d order tillers decreased in total number at the point of 3-4 seedlings per hill, when the 3d order tillers were reaching zero value. The 1st order tillers increased in number per hill, with Norin 6 having slightly more in all cases. The greater density of planting is therefore desirable for production of tillers.
