Summary
The arterial supply of the maxillary sinus was studied by gelatin injection. The ant. or jugal wall of the antrum is supplied primarily by the important antro alveolar artery (1 mm. caliber) which runs in the bony wall; secondarily, by some small and variable arterioles branching off from the infra-orbital artery after it issues from the suborbital foramen, and distributed over the whole upper part of the wall. The post. or zygomatic wall of the antrum is supplied in its upper half by a very variable, often multiple branch of the infra-orbital; in its lower half by the antro-alveolar artery (alveolar of the classics), a larger branch (1-2 mm.) of the infra-orbital or internal maxillary which runs through a bony canal within the tuberosity of the maxillary. The internal or nasal wall of the sinus is supplied in its upper portion by the ostial artery, a small collateral branch of the artery of the middle meatus in its lower portion, by terminal recurrent branches of the antro-alveolar artery, and also by arterioles from the angular, sphenopalatine, and tuberosital.
