Summary
This research mainly focusing on to increase the use of natural materials in concrete structures and to reduce the cost of materials which are used in construction purpose particularly steel. Steel is the major component which is used in structural member as a reinforcement in column, beam and slab. The main disadvantage of this material that it easily corrodes when it interacts with moisture and due to this effect, its strength is also greatly reduced and it leads to durability problem in buildings. For reducing this effect, we utilize the bamboo rebars as a partial reinforcement in the place of steel for not only to increase durability property but also to enhance the utilization of low-cost and efficient materials for construction purpose. In this way, bamboo is a natural and low-cost material which is highly utilized as a reinforcement. The bamboo can be partially replaced instructural member and that is indicated in percentages as 50 %as a main rebars. The bamboo rebars were placed in compression zone on 1.2 m beams. The beams are tested under loading frame and test results are obtained. In loading frame, two-point loads were given in one-third of position on both ends in beam. From the test result, it was compared with conventional beam in flexural strength, deflection and their crack pattern and it shows that partial bamboo replacement beam obtain partial strength in compared with steel reinforcement. From our research, we recommend that bamboo can also be utilized in members instead of steel in structural members.
