Summary
In pot experiments on loamy sand, edge burn and tip burn of lettuce occurred after steam sterilization of the soil. The development of necrotic spots over the whole leaf surface and changes in plant growth were typical secondary effects. These symptoms were attributed to increased Mn uptake following steam sterilization.
